Godfather's Cinnamon Streusel Dessert Pizza- aka: Heaven

So I tried this recipe out last night, and LOVED it!! tasted just like Godfather's....... well... almost. But thats just because of the crust I used :)
So here is the recipe Pizza Dough * (you can make your own, or buy refridgerated dough) 1 TBSP Butter, melted ** Cinnamon Streusel: 1/2 c plus 1/3 c all purpose flour 1/3 c white sugar 1/4 c brown sugar 2 TBSP vegetable shortening 2 TBSP olive oil Icing: 1 c powdered sugar 1 TBSP milk 1/2 tsp vanilla Direction: Mix together streusel ingredients with a fork, then set aside. To make pizza, pat dough into a 12 inch pizza pan, greased. Brush with one TBSP butter.** Sprinkle cinnamon all around buttered crust. Top pizza crust with streusel mix. Bake at 450 for 8-9 minutes, depending on the thickness of the pizza.* Mix icing ingredients until they are of drizzle consistency (add more milk if needed) Whhen finished baking, top with icing in a circular pinwheel pattern. Cut and enjoy! Best served warm. *So I bought Philsbury thin crust dough. Learn from me, dont do this. I didnt care for the taste of the dough and it was too thin. I would suggest making your own, or the bashas bakery sells really good dough for $2. thats what I am going to try next time. Also, the recipes cook time, I didnt follow it I followed the dough I boughts cooking directions, Although it was done a little before that. **feel free to melt your butter, but my pizza directions were to prebake the dough 5 min before topping, if you do this too its much easier to just rub a stick of butter all over the dough until well coated

Just a note..... :)

Hello! Thanks for stopping by! I hope you've enjoyed the posts so far! Sorry for not going into too much detail and having step by step photos and instructions. The projects I have been posting so far are things I did before starting the blog, so I usually just took before/ after pics. But when a new project comes along, I will post more photos and instructions! Please feel free to ask me any questions you may have! Thanks!

DIY burp rag

My baby boy was coming soon and I needed some burp rags for him! so I decided to make some!!!
I picked out the fabric I wanted to use and cut out two kidney shaped pieces (Just free handed it) I used a cotton material. different types will work as well, they just need to have some absorbancy. I tested this by dropping a few water droplets on my material first. Next I cut out the same shape in a very thick plain white cotton (not batting, fabric) Because it was very absorbant. I lined up all 3 pieces and stitched all along the outside about 1/2 inch seam allowance using just a straight stitch. After I clipped little slits all along the outside. this pic is before washing. After washed the outside will fray but stay put because of your seam! Looks super cute! If you prefer no frayed edges, try zig-zagging all around the edge instead of the sraight stitch with 1/2 inch seam!

Simple Way to Update Outdated Furniture...

So I painted this nightstand a long time ago.... and left it at that (it used to be white, but my bedroom furniture is brown)
Well, the brass handles finally got on my nerves and I decided to do something about it. unfortunately (or maybe fortunately!) my husband was at work with our car, so I could not go out and buy new handles....

However... I did have a can of black spray paint... and I didnt mind the design of the handles... just the color! So I took those handles off, spray painted them, and once they were dry I put them back on! It's amazing what such a simple task of replacing (or repainting!) the hardware on furniture can do....
Since then I have glazed this nightstand with black and it looks alot better now that it has some texture to it... but sorry I dont have any pictures as of yet!!!

Frameless "Framed" Picture

So I bought this lovely picture of the Mesa Temple... like 6 months ago. I have never been able to find a frame to fit it (11x17)... And I had this blank canvas laying around.... then I got an idea! I spray painted the canvas black, put some mod podge in the center after it had dried, and flattened my picture in the center! (I did not mod podge over the picture as I like the finish of the actual picture, and I didn't feel it was neccesary)
A Much cheaper version would be to use something other than canvas, but I had nothing else to do with mine :) I would suggest wood, a shoe box lid, or you could build your own "canvas" by nailing four pieces of wood together and stretching fabric over them, then nailing in the back! this would allow you to find a fabric with a fun pattern rather than spray painting!

Dresser Make-over

So I got this dresser from my mother, not in the best of condition... and an ugly color.. but hey it was free! and that is the best kind of all! (we had already taken the handles off and my huband started filling the holes in, not necesary, we were gonna put handles somewhere else, but decided against it)
So I re-did it! (i didnt paint the legs because I took them off)
I started by lightly sanding the whole dresser, not worrying about doing a whole lot cuz i was priming it. Next I primed it with a spray paint primer, because, well I am lazy and it was a lot faster! not to mention, I think it looks more "finished" I hate the look of brush strokes. Just be careful not to spray drips, etc... I found it easier to not start spraying on the project, or stop spraying on the project. but start/ end an inch or two off. and If your husband is helping you, you may have to keep reminding him of this!!!!! then I spray painted it brown, and let it dry. next? Glazing! I glazed the whole thing with black! I love glazing its so easy and gives it some texture! after the glaze dried I coated it with polyurethane!!! Perfect for my baby boy!

sprucing up a plain old garbage can (my first mod podge project!)

So I was super excited to use mod podge, and now I love it! I had this cheapo white garbage can in my guest bathroom, and the rest of it looks so nice, I just had to do somehting about the garbage can, as I am too cheap to go out and buy a nice one! If you chose to do this, I would suggest a straight flat edge garbage can as mine curved, which made it harder but still possible
so I cut out the right sizes I needed in scrapbook paper, and mod podged the garbage can. then put my paper on, and mod podged over the top, trying to smooth out all wrinkles and bumps, but I didnt 100% succeed....
this was my first time using mod podge and I did not realize how quickly that stuff dries!!! So it isnt perfect... but I still think its cuter! and you cant really see all the mistakes unless your looking close... and I dont think anyone will be inspecting my garbage can while using the bathroom... I hope!

sprucing up a picture frame

so recently I bought this picture frame from Walmart.... (please bear with my pictures, I am waiting on some new ones, but I needed to put SOMETHING in those blank spaces so I could hang it up!)
cute, but I am sure like a million other people have this exact same one.... so I spruced mine up a little bit!!!
I like it much better! More unique! So how did I do it??? It was super easy! I turned the frame upside down and traced the lettering onto scrapbook paper (I did each letter indiviually as I wanted each letter from different paper) Then I put some mod podge on the frame, and lined up my paper! then I put more mod podge over the top to finish it off!!!

Car Seat Recovered! (and matching kiddopotomus support!)

so I had this car seat......but I have seen it everywhere. I needed something more unique :)
So using the same basic technique as the stroller... I made this! this pic is before I did the buttonholes.
Was a lot easier than I expected it to be! and fun! I just love it!!! I originally got the idea from makeit-loveit.com but her car seat was much different than mine.. so i just used the steps of me taking it apart to put it back together!!! :) I also had this hideous kiddopotomus car seat support....
so using the old one as a pattern I made a new one! (sorry this is the only picture I have of it right now, and I ran out of bias tape so it isnt 100% done but you get the idea!!!!!

Stroller recovered!

So my parents neighbors were having a garage sale... and I was expecting baby #2 so my mom got this stroller super cheap for me.
Functions well, but lets face it. It's hideous. I had recently recovered my car seat, so I figured, What the heck. The frame of the stroller is dark blue, and the dark blue parts had a bunch of snaps I did not want to deal with. So I had to go pick something that matched the dark blue, which limited me but I still love it so much more!!! I started by seam- ripping apart the old pieces, taking lots of pictures. I also wrote down each step I took. that way when I was done I just started at the last step and worked backwards to step 1, and was able to refer to pictures if needed. (after seam ripping it apart I used the original fabric pieces to cut out identical pieces in my new fabric!!!!!!) Each stroller is very different so it's hard to give an exact tutorial, I think the easiest thing is to use your ripping it apart as a tutorial. Please feel free to ask me any questions you may have! This sounded super difficult and I was afraid I would end up ruining it (same w/ when i did the same thing to my carseat) But trust me, its a lot easier than it sounds! just time consuming ripping it all apart!

Welcome to From Thrifty To Nifty!

Hello! And welcome to my blog! Are you looking to make home decor, baby items, crafts, gifts, re-purpose items such as furniture, frames, jars, and much much more?!?! Than this blog is for you! :) Thanks for dropping by, and please bear with me while I get the hang of this whole blogging business! The reason behind "From Thrifty To Nifty": I became inspired to create a blog through pinterest actually.... Pinterest has given me a lot of inspiration for crafting, sewing, and much much more! As I began making projects I was pinning, I decided it would be a lot of fun to create a blog to blog about my creations, and give tutorials and advice on things I have been inspired to make! The reason behind the name: I love going to thrift stores. People just get rid of so much "junk" that has so much potential! (there loss, my gain!) Every time I go to the thrift store I think of tons of new things I could make! My hopes for this blog is to provide tutorials and advice from my experiences and projects, to help you make your own, and for you to be inspired to come up with your own creative ideas as well! Although I have named my blog From Thrifty To Nifty, please keep in mind it will include more than just this :) As much as I love re-purposing things I find at the thrift store/ have laying around... I also love sewing and crafting! So you will find tutorials for these types of things as well! And since I am on a budget, I will be trying to stick to the cheaper side of things! ie: next on my to-do list, Have you seen those 3-D stars at hobby lobby that hang on the wall??? Well I have been wanting one but haven't been wanting to buy one! So I am going to make one with some cardboard, mod podge, and scrapbook paper! It will be much more unique this way anyways! (one reason I enjoy making my own stuff, you won't see it in everyone else's home!) (I also enjoy cooking, so a forewarning, you may find a few cooking tutorials/ adventures now and again) Well that's all for now, stay tuned!
